The Henriques 42 Flybridge is a New Jersey–built Downeast-style sportfisherman with a reputation for running hard in a sea, and this 2020 example has been rigged for serious offshore work and long days on the water. Twin Cummins QSM 11 diesels with joystick piloting give her the muscle and the close-quarters manners, and a major engine service was recently completed with receipts in hand.

What sets her apart is the systems package layered on top of that fishing platform: a Seakeeper 6 gyro to settle the ride, an onboard watermaker, and a Spot Zero system so she washes down spot-free after every trip. Refrigerated fish boxes, a green stick, and Release teak helm chairs round out a boat that was clearly built by an owner who fishes.

Highlights

Power & Handling: Twin Cummins QSM 11 diesels in a direct-drive configuration, paired with joystick piloting for docking and backing down. A major engine service was recently completed and the receipts come with the boat, a meaningful piece of documentation on a diesel sportfish of this size.

Fishability: Refrigerated fish boxes keep the catch cold all day, a green stick is aboard for the tuna program, and a cockpit rocket launcher handles the spread. The flybridge is fitted with Release teak helm chairs, the standard by which offshore helm seating is judged.

Onboard Systems: A Seakeeper 6 gyro stabilizer takes the roll out of drifting and trolling, an onboard watermaker extends her range, and a Spot Zero system delivers deionized water for spot-free washdowns at the dock.

Galley & Comfort: The galley includes a food warmer and slow cooker, so hot meals are part of the program on long runs offshore rather than an afterthought.

Not surprisingly, this model has substantial space (155 square feet) in the cockpit, allowing for two removable fish boxes, walk-through transom door, bait freezer and sink, tackle center, stowage for 29 rods, and plenty of elbow room for you and your angler pals.

The all-important engine room is also spacious, allowing you to maneuver and reach all regular service points. As in every Henriques model, the hull of the 42 is hand-laid, solid fiberglass below the water line, with Divinycell coring in the sides. The bridge affords clean sightlines, a neat helm console to flush mount your electronics, and a front bench seat. A plus on this bridge is the walkway behind the helm and aft of the cockpit ladder, allowing access to the port companion seat without interfering with the captain.

A major benefit of deciding to build your own Henriques is that it will be a limited production, semi-custom boat. We are willing to accommodate many individual designs, as long as they don’t interfere with the integrity of the vessels. In short, no two 42’s are the same. With several generations of boat building excellence behind her, the 42’ will stand up to any challenge offering complete comfort.
